Happy Friday! Today, I'm sharing a peek into my bedroom - there are still so many things I would love to do! When I moved back to Wilmington, I moved into a home my parents were renting out that is also right next to their house. I love being here and the convenience of being right with my family, but I also don't know if I'll stay here for another year or another several years. Because of that, I'm holding off on any huge purchases that may not work in other spaces. P.S. another great thing about living right next to my parents? They babysit Sophie pup every day so she doesn't have to be all alone!
Happy Monday! How is a new week already here? This weekend flew by: wedding shower, Christmas shopping, ornament exchange, my sister's production of Babes in Toyland, and lots of Christmas shopping. I can't get enough though - I absolutely love time time of year. It was nice to spend Sunday evening eating dinner with my family and then relaxing with Stephen. And speaking of relaxing, if you know me, you probably know my obsession with Capri Blue candles. Bevello carries them, and often has one lit in the store, so I would smell them every time I was in there to shop. It wasn't until I gifted one to a friend that I realized how much they were so incredibly worth it. I've given multiples to friends, bought them for myself, and been gifted them, and I will never get tired of CB.

Settling into my new apartment this time around was much easier than the first. Though I bought some new things here and there, I already had the couches, tables, pillows, mirrors, and lamps, and I was content to keep them. Though I love the interior setup of this apartment even more than the last, I do really miss the adorable fireplace that I had. Because I didn't have a fireplace and didn't want to hang my TV on the wall, I found a stand at Target that went perfectly with the furniture that I already had. I also have a major obsession with Home Goods, so I furnished quite a bit of my living area with finds from there.
It's Friday, once more, and I am more than ready for the weekend. Despite a quick week, it's certainly nice to see Friday again.

Scandal is back -- and as many of you know, I have a strong mild obsession with Kerry Washington. She may even be on my inspiration board in my office...oops. I'm even more obsessed with Scandal, and I could not be more ready for another set of exciting episodes. If you haven't watched it yet, run to Netflix now! (Warning: You may end up watching the entire season in one sitting.)

Tomorrow morning, I'm going to check out the farmer's market. I've never been to one in the Charlotte area, so I'm excited to give it a try. I'm really hoping for some fresh flowers -- is that even an option at the farmer's market this time of year?

I had such an incredible weekend with my mom, Nonny (grandmother), and sister! Though I love going home, it was so much fun having them up here at my home away from home. We ate way too much food (so good), explored a few new places, and as my sister says, shopped until we dropped.
Amazingly enough, it has officially been one month since I moved to my new little home. I was hoping that by now I would have a full post of pictures to show you, but I've been slightly OCD about this apartment -- and it's not yet finished . . . I'm still looking for the perfect desk (which I think I've found but have to order) and a bedside table (which my mom has purchased, but it's at home). Once I have these, I'll be good to go -- until I find something else I "need."
I don't want to post photos of my entire apartment until everything is semi-perfect, but . . . for now, check out these fun pieces and some of my favorite details of my apartment!
I found this fun piece at a store called Black Lion. I've driven past it at least 15 times since I've been up here but never knew what it was! I was so glad I stopped in -- a large store filled with tons of vendors!
How adorable is this seahorse? I was in love from the moment I saw it!
My mom and grandmother came across the pair of these and they definitely are a perfect fit! I am currently using one of my side tables as a bedside table until I get my real one here, so the other lamp doesn't have a home, but I can't wait to see them together! (Also, see that little starfish? My parents brought that little hand-carved jewel back to me from Jamaica!)
You can't see the whole wall just yet, but it was a hard one to decorate! It is between two windows with another piece of wall nearby . . . and I just couldn't find the right piece to fit here. But I found this today, and I fell in love!
Fun note: Aside from the fish, the other three items are from Home Goods! I am obsessed.
I can't wait to update with the finished product -- but these will do for now!
So often, we see kitchens that are monochromatic - - blacks, whites, chromes, etc. - - or kitchens that are more traditional - - wood-grain cabinets, the works. Though when I design my own home I will probably lean towards a white kitchen similar to the one below, there is something fun and exciting about a brightly-hued kitchen space.
I really love this kitchen. I'm not sure who designed it, but I would love to know. Though I'm not sure I would ever do something like this, how fun is it?

One thing to consider if choosing a color for a kitchen is how much you really and truly like that color. Is it just a trend or have you always loved it? Do you like it in small doses or do you want it to cover a wall? Color can be tiring very quickly so it's important to think about how much you will actually like it farther along down the line.
Bold:
This vibrant kitchen is not for the faint of heart. Bright pink cabinets are bright and bold, but only choose something this if you really love this kind of hue.
"Dandelion House" seems appropriate for any home that houses a kitchen like this one.

This kitchen is blue all over! The hue that is used is not overwhelming, so this much color definitely works!
Colorful Accents:
I really love this kitchen. I'm not sure who designed it, but I would love to know. Though I'm not sure I would ever do something like this, how fun is it?
This gorgeous kitchen is designed by Liz Carroll of Liz Carroll Interiors. The tile backsplash provides just enough color to keep the kitchen fun and airy. Of course, it doesn't help that I love anything that she does!
This Spanish-inspired kitchen, designed by Erica Islas, has the perfect turquoise touch. The cabinets are different and eclectic, giving the kitchen just enough pizzazz.

It can sometimes be difficult to pick out the perfect gift for a hostess or a friend who has just moved to a new house. The options may seem endless . . . but that certainly doesn't make gift-giving any easier. One of my biggest gift-giving qualms is purchasing something the receiver may have no use for. So, what to get? I came across a few things that I would love to receive, like a fab frame or some great stationery!
Here are some fun ideas that any hostess or new house owner will love!

I learned a lot of great things about the interior design world, marketing strategies, and the workings of a small business and had the chance to do some fun things as well -- including styling for a magazine shoot!
I had the opportunity to assist Liz in styling the outdoor living space of a beautiful home for Wrightsville Beach Magazine. The home was gorgeous in itself and the views breathtaking, but with Liz's design expertise, the shoot turned out perfectly!

How beautiful is this outdoor space? It has pristine views of the Intracoastal Waterway.
See the fireplace? It was close to 90 degrees that day, but the fire added some great warmth (no pun intended) to the photo. I loved the pillows from Nest, located in Wilmington, as well as the little details like the arrangement of lemons. I also loved the light fixture hanging from their outdoor pool "cabana."
Wouldn't you love to entertain here?!
Styling a photo shoot seems like it might be an easy task, but don't let it fool you. Liz spent much time picking out decor and props to make these pictures look effortless, while the talented photographer made sure every angle was perfect.

I'm moving on up!
design inspiration
In just a few short weeks, I'll be moving to my brand new home in a brand new city to start a brand new job. Lots of brand new, I know. Though I'm anxious about what is ahead, I am also really excited to do something different -- and to decorate and design a new place.
I found the perfect place for me -- a garden apartment in a quaint town center/village atmosphere. I'll be surrounded by stores like Bevello and Uniquities, with a Starbucks and a PureBarre fitness studio right around the corner.
I am incredibly passionate about interior design. My dream job would be to travel around the country learning new design techniques and finding knick-knacks, designing houses here at home, and blogging about it. Yes please. I actually started my college career as an interior design major -- but for some unknown reason, decided it was not for me (why, oh why?)
Nonetheless, I had a great internship at the beginning of the summer with a local designer, Liz Carroll. She was incredible to work for, and I got a sneak peek into the design world, and of course, I fell in love. I would highly recommend her to anyone -- she is fabulous!
I find inspiration in so many things, which is wonderful and terrible all at the same time! I've found that I drift towards two different things. Very bright pinks and oranges or elegant neutrals. So -- what is it going to be for my new apartment? While all of these things can't be a reality, here are a few of my favorite design things.
I am officially in love with Giuliana and Bill Rancic's new L.A. home! After just welcoming baby Duke, they now have a perfect family home. Interior designer Lonni Paul created the space to fit the Rancics needs, and in my opinion, it could fit most everyone's!
