Styling a Console Table

Our home is definitely still a work in progress! We have so much we want to do in our living room - a larger table for our TV, framing wedding photos for a gallery wall, finding a rug... the list could go on and on - but one thing I do love is this pretty console table!

I purchased on recommendation from a friend when I saw it in her home and really planned for it to go in our hallway. I had a table behind the couch here, but it just wasn't quite working. I liked the idea of having a good table behind the couch to "create" the room - the layout of this area is that the hallway, living room, and kitchen all end up right where this area is - and so I scratched the idea of using this as a hallway entry table and have been using it here instead.

We are constantly changing things up (and I will probably be adding a little bit of fall decor to this table) but we recently replaced the blue tables that I had on end tables on either side of the couch with these neutral ones that we found at Home Goods. We found that with our new couch, we really didn't need a side table on both sides, but I like symmetry, so I put them on the actual table instead.

I'm loving this little table as I've found there are so many things you can do with it! Here are a few tips that helped me:

Style with personal mementos. While the console table is for decor, I also want some of its contents to reflect Stephen and me. I love sharing family photos and also have our guest book on our table as well. We opted for a linen hardback book from Artifact Uprising of our engagement photos for guests to sign at our wedding, and I love looking at both the "love notes" our guests left as well as our engagement photos from time to time.
Add height. I found that  adding the lamps as well as some pieces that offered height truly made a difference in styling the table. At first, I didn't have the coral vessel or lamps, and adding those really created the barrier I was looking for from common area to living room.
Try layering. When I first started styling this piece, there were things that just weren't working. I found that stacking items created depth and creating clusters filled up the space nicely.
Change up with the seasons. I should probably take my advice more on this one but I'm excited to add a few holiday touches as we near Halloween and Thanksgiving and then of course, a few fun pieces for Christmas!

Where to shop? I will collect things as I see them but a few of my favorites include Pottery Barn, Home Goods, and Pier 1. We also received several of our pieces as wedding gifts, and we love having them displayed!
