Tips for the Move

It's incredibly hard to believe that moving week is here! I also have some other news - I made a very tough decision to change jobs. It was a very difficult decision to make and it's one that I am still incredibly sad about, but I am excited to see what lies ahead!

I've known for awhile now that I would be moving, so I've slowly been making preparations, but even still, moving week is here and I have so much left to do. Here are a few tips and tricks that have helped me throughout this process.

Spring Cleaning
No matter the season, cleaning out and cleaning up necessities for the move. I have been packing little by little, and clearing out in the process. I've gone through my closet, made a Goodwill bag, and I've also been selling a few things on Poshmark. This has been tremendously helpful and will be one less thing I have to do when I get to my new home. Tackle some of the big things one day at of time - the floors one day, the bathroom the next, etc. until everything is cleaned and ready for one more wipe down once all your items are out.

Boxing it Up
Pack up your boxes in stages. If there are things in the weeks before the move that you know you won't need, go ahead and pack them up! It's hard to see a boxed up apartment but it makes it much easier in the few days leading up to the move. And as you pack, label boxes with what's inside as well as what room they should be placed in at the new location - that will be helpful if you have movers or if you're doing the move yourself.

The Wardrobe
Use trash bags to group your clothing together but keep them on the hanger. Nothing is more exhausting than taking all your clothes off the hanger only to have to hang them right back up. Grab a garment rack if you don't already have one, section off your clothes in groups, and use trash bags to cover the clothes - then, if an article of clothing falls off the hanger, it won't get lost in the shuffle.

The Extras
When you've lived in the same location for awhile, you grow accustomed to things - your cable company, your energy company, and your address, among other things. Cancel or change those items in the week or two before move. My cable provider is not going to be the same in Wilmington, so I asked them to cancel my service beginning on Saturday. And changing your address is easy to do -- you can do it quickly and easily online to make sure your snail mail makes it to your new location.
I'm always looking for tips to make things easier, so any suggestions over the next few days are very welcome!
