Halloweekend

festive
Happy Halloween from the cutest strawberry you've ever seen! I found this about a month ago, and Soph has worn it all of about 5 minutes, but I can't resist a cute puppy costume. She was pouting during this little photo shoot, in case you can't tell...

fall colors
One of my favorite parts of fall in North Carolina is the foliage. I can't get enough of the beautiful reds, yellows, and oranges that cover the trees.

Spooky brownies make for tasty fun! I'm putting this idea on my Biscuit Hill B&B vanilla cream biscuits instead of the brownie
spooky
Looking for a last minute Halloween recipe? These ghost brownies are adorable and so incredibly easy.

crafted
Just because today is Halloween doesn't mean it's too late for a few crafts or DIYs. Glitter Guide has a few fun ideas -- and who doesn't love a little glitter?

Chewy Pumpkin Spice Molasses Cookies
sweet treat
These pumpkin cookies look like the perfect sweet treat for this weekend, but I may just be making them all through fall. They could be a perfect addition to a Thanksgiving feast!

Hope you have a great Halloweekend! Linking with April!

A Peek Inside

When it comes to my bag, it has way too much in it. These are the things that are in it consistently on a daily basis, but a few other things will slip their way in. I use this big Michael Kors tote for that very reason. Before work, I toss in my bottle of water, a breakfast bar, and a snack, plus anything else I need for the day. It can easily hold a sweater or scarf, making it the perfect bag to take to the office. On the weekends, I switch out to something more fun, but right now, I'm in this same-bag routine during the week -- but I don't hate it.

  • iPhone + phone case -- this goes without saying that this is always in my bag {or on my desk}.
  • May Designs notebook -- I love how you can personalize these, and though I mainly use it for blog ideas, it's handy for grocery lists and other little memos I need to keep up with.
  • lotion -- I use lotion all throughout the day. If my hands are the slightest bit dry, I can't concentrate, so I keep this readily available no matter the bag.
  • address book -- I love snail mail {both sending and receiving}, so I picked up this little address book to keep in my bag. I have an Erin Condren planner that also has a section for addresses, but because of the size, I don't always tote it with me.
  • Kate Spade wallet -- I picked this up during a surprise sale during the spring and absolutely love it. You can find a similar one here.
  • Rosebud Salve + lip colors -- I always have a few color options for my lips, but my go-to no matter what I put on top is my rosebud salve. I use it for my lips, but it's perfect for dry hands, cuticles, and the like.
  • glasses -- I wear contacts daily, but every so often, my eyes will bother me. I keep my Tory Burch glasses in my bag just in case, and I love the case that they came in.
  • sunglasses -- If I'm driving and it's sunny, I need sunglasses. Usually, I keep more than one pair just in case I happen to take out the other and leave them inside or in the car.
  • business cards -- I finally purchased business cards for Southern Style, so I now keep them in my bag to share a little bit about the blog details

Surprise

top: Target, pants: Forever 21 (similar), clutch: vintage, shoes: Aldo, sunglasses: Ray-Ban

A story about this top -- it was a quick pickup from Target, and I was thinking that it would be the perfect top to wear with leggings, since it had a longer back. I wore it to work the next day [with jeans], and someone mentioned that they loved the crossed back. I was thinking to myself, "What in the world is she talking about?," but just said thanks and kept going. Later, I was washing my hands in the bathroom when I caught my side view in the floor length mirror and noticed these tails hanging down. Silly me, I never even realized that the back of the shirt was like this! I thought the whole time that it was just a longer tunic. Clearly, I need to work on my attention to detail, but either way, it was a win because I do love the fun surprise that the back of the top gives away.

Family Snapshots

Over the weekend, my family and I went to a reunion for part of my mom's side of the family. It was at my grandfather's house, which is complete with a farm that spreads out over the backyard. It was the perfect weather, so we spent the majority of the afternoon outside. It was nice to just spend the day with my family, eating lots of good and hanging out with the llama. Yes, that is in fact a real live llama. But one of my favorite memories from this day will be the swing -- from that very same tree hung a rope swing that I played on as a little girl. The rope has now been replaced with chain, and there is a new generation of children playing on it, but I was instantly taken back to my childhood. So very thankful for sweet memories like these.

Vested

vest: Target, tunic: Target, pants: Michael Kors,  ring: vintage, watch: Rolex, bag: Tory Burch, shoes: Aldo (on sale!)

I have found the shirt that I want to live in all through fall. It is the perfect fit and length for leggings, but looks great with denim, too, and I want it in every single color. I also snagged this fun vest last week and love how it looks paired with the tunic and leggings. And if you're looking for the perfect bootie for fall, look no further. I found these on our NYC trip back in August, and now that the temperatures are finally cooler, I can't seem to get enough of them. They'll be on repeat, no doubt about it. P.S. These puppies love photos, too.

Jeweled

Last night, I had the pleasure of hosting a Stella & Dot trunk show with one of my best friends, Emma. Another friend of ours, Mary Kate, was our stylist. It was a fun night with food, drinks, and lots of jewels. We had appetizers and wine set up in the kitchen, with the jewelry set up nearby, and it made for a perfect afternoon with some of our girlfriends. Something I didn't realize is how versatile this jewelry is, especially the necklaces. You can mix and match them, make them longer and shorter with extenders, and add pieces to a single strand to make a larger statement necklace.

I met Mary Kate when we were in kindergarten, so we've known each other for quite awhile. Last year, she found out she was pregnant with twin girls, who were born at 29 weeks and had a 3-month stay in the NICU. Thankfully, Leah and Amelia are very healthy and beautiful girls who are about to turn 1, but they did have their fair share of tribulations when they were first born. A friend of Mary Kate's hosted a trunk show for her to raise funds for their medical expenses, and after that, Mary Kate was hooked and became a stylist herself. She is also writing a book on being a twin mama, and is using the commissions towards publishing it, so what a great story this is.

I snagged one sparkly necklace, but have my eye on a few more things. I'm also taking my shopping guide home over the weekend to share with my mom and grandmother, and I'll probably be doing a little bit more shopping for Christmas gifts as well. Interested in shopping Stella + Dot? You can shop here. Here's a hint: I chose this one
