Flashback

How crazy is it that this weekend ends the month of August? Where has summer gone? August has held some of my favorite looks of the summer, and I know I'll be squeezing in some repeats between now and when the golden leaves begin to fall. Here's a flashback to looks from August -- and cheers to September and a wonderful Labor Day weekend!

The Wanted List

wanted list

   bag      /     cuff      /      heel      /      dress      /      top      /      cropped pant      /      blazer

If you can't tell based on my posts these last few weeks, I'm just not ready to give up on summertime. I feel like the weather just turned warm, but then I realize that I've already been back in Raleigh for two months and my move feels like forever ago. Even though I'm holding on to the warm weather, I can't help but feel more and more excited about spicing up my wardrobe for fall.

Many of my summer wardrobe purchases were dedicated to frilly dresses and short shorts -- things that aren't quite right for the office. For fall, I'm really looking for pieces that I can weave in and out of my weekend and work week wardrobe. Cropped pants and blazers can be mixed and matched depending on the occasion, and a fun pair of heels can spice up the simplest black pant or mix well with a pair of denim. I picked up a pair of skinny knit pants this week that will be perfect for both the office or the weekend, and they are versatile enough that I can pair them with boots or heels. If any of the above items appeared in my closet, I can assure you I wouldn't be disappointed.

Vibrant

c/o Fab Finds Boutique dress, Steve Madden wedges, GiGi New York clutch, c/o Chloe + Isabel bangle, Margaret Elizabeth bangle c/o Rocks Box, Ray Ban sunglasses c/o Eye Care Associates

Can you tell I'm hanging on to summer? The days are still long and warm here in the South, so I'm using the last days of summer to my advantage. This dress from Fab Finds Boutique is fun and flirty, and it's safe to say I'm in love. I knew I loved it from pictures, but when it actually arrived in my mailbox, I couldn't believe the beautiful colors. It is so vibrant, and I love the simplicity of the shape paired with the fun pattern -- and the low back didn't hurt either.

Though the summer weather is a given, a favorite part of the season is the fun clothing that is always trending. With fall quickly approaching, I'm excited to pull out fun jeans, booties, and sweaters, but I'm just not quite sure I'm ready to give up little dresses like this one.

Tribal

c/o Adeline Boutique dressZahra flash tattoos, Francesca's clutch (old), Gorjana necklace c/o Rocks Box

It's safe to say that this maxi is the best thing I've found all summer. It is form-fitting and sleek, and the cutouts give off a flirty sexy vibe. Adeline Boutique has some some incredible pieces -- though this one will always be my very favorite. I wore it out with to celebrates friends' birthdays, and I felt great in it all night. It's perfect for a late summer night, and I can't wait to wear it again.

It's also safe to say that I'm in love with flash tattoos. As soon as I got this dress in the mail, I knew the flash tattoos would be the perfect accessories. I kept the rest of my jewelry minimal, letting the dress and the tattoos do most of the talking. Don't be surprised if both this dress and the tattoos reappear very, very soon.

Monochromatic

Zara top, White House Black Market jeans, CYNTHIA Cynthyia Rowley shoes (sold out), LL Monograms bag c/o, Michael Kors watch

With Labor Day quickly approaching, I'm using these last summer days for my summer wardrobe. I picked up this top from Zara while in New York, and I am now in love. While the jeans may not make it through to winter -- who still follows the no white after Labor Day rule? -- this top definitely will. Paired with a blazer, it is perfect for fall.

I'm also on the go so much -- work, travel, visiting friends, going home, and the like. Because of this, I have my fair share of totes, but this is a new favorite. The color matches everything, while the monogram adds a hint of Southern charm. This bag is perfect for throwing things in to head to work, but it's also perfect for my tiny dog. She goes so many places with me, and she can fit right in with my things. The silly thing is that she'll hop in any bag I put on a floor because she thinks she'll get to go somewhere.

This zippered tote from LL Monograms will be more and more as fall approaches. I tend to overpack, so not only can I use it for work, but I can also use it when I head to Wilmington for the weekend. With a zippered top, it'll keep everything in place. Speaking of weekends, hope it's a good one! Happy Friday!

Snaps in the City

On Thursday evening, I joined my parents in New York City for a long weekend. They had already been there for a few days (my mom and sister for a week!), so I was wanting to cram in a lot of things in just a couple of days so I could catch up. Thursday night, I met them outside a theater where they were seeing Phantom of the Opera, we grabbed some pizza for a late night snack, and we called it a night. I was ready to go explore on Friday morning, and explore, we did.

I've been to NYC quite a few times, but I never seem to tire of it. Granted, I don't think I could live there, but I do love to visit, no matter the season. We tend to frequent the same restaurants and places each time we go, which is why I wished I had a couple more days to try some new things, but I still enjoyed every minute, regardless. Here were a few stops during the weekend:

Rosie O'Grady's
The omelet is delicious. I chose one of the ham&cheese variety, and it was served with french fries. I would also recommend the club sandwich and tomato & spinach bisque. We didn't eat there for dinner this time around, but it's a great option for your evening meal as well.

Benjamin's Steakhouse
Worth the wait! Even with reservations, we waited 40 minutes to be seated. Great steak and fish options, and the mashed potatoes are to die for.

Houndstooth Pub
Get the English Jackets -- the best potato wedge appetizer you will ever eat! After I tried one, I wished I had ordered them for my meal! The burgers are delicious as well.

Dylan's Candy Bar
So many people have talked about how cute this place was, and though touristy, it was definitely cute. Though waiting for a real table would have been close to an hour wait, we still found a seat right beside the ice cream bar where I helped myself to a very large Birthday Party Sundae. Other desserts were available (think doughnuts and cakes galore). I'm still dreaming about that one. Head downstairs and you'll find a variety of candy options in addition to fondue and a fudge station.

Central Park
Seeing Central Park in the summertime made wish I had an entire day to spend there -- with a book, a picnic, and some great company. It was the absolute perfect day.

Broadway
We saw Pippin, and to be honest, I was not sure if I would like it at all. It was quite the opposite though -- the story line is unique, and there are a lot of aerial and acrobatic tricks that really add to the show. I think it is worth it to see a show every time you are in the city -- and I would recommend this one. I also would love to see Idina Menzel's new musical If/Then. Next time!

Shopping
I didn't hit nearly as many stores this time around as I normally do, but this had a lot to do with the fact that I only had two full days there. I did visit Zara, though, and spent way too much time there -- I scored some really great pieces that I can't wait to wear this fall!

Though I love being back home, nothing beats a trip to New York City. If you've never been, I would highly recommend going. It is so easy to immerse yourself in the culture there -- and the hustle and bustle is definitely something everyone should see.
