Wanderlust: European Adventure Part 1

These days, wanderlust is kicking in. Though my sights are set on the tropics, I love traveling anywhere, and have been reflecting back on my trip to Europe. In the summer of 2012, some of the girls in my family took a trip to Europe for two weeks. We first flew into Munich and traveled back and forth between Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, before traveling back to Germany to start a river cruise down the Rhine. To say this was an incredible experience would be an understatement. I learned so much by traveling this way, and my first trip abroad could not have been more perfect.

I so wish I had this blog when we traveled so I could have fully documented each leg of our trip. I used a fun app called TripColor, which sort of documented it and was a fun way to share with our friends and family what we were doing. It also pin-pointed the location of each picture added to a map, which ultimately showed all of the places we visited.

The first few stops:
Munich and Fussen (close to the home of the Neuschwanstein Castle) in Germany, and Vienna, Austria

On this first part of our trip, we flew into Munich, immediately checked in to our hotel and headed straight to the train station. Our plan for the day was to visit the Neuschwanstine Castle, which is located above the little town of Fussen, so we finally found train tickets before rushing to catch our train. My first train experience was not the best, as I stood most of the time near a door that people kept opening on to me. But hey, I was in Europe, so that's okay. We spent the day (a warm one at that!) in Fussen eating lunch -- our first German meal was Italian! - before waiting for our tour in the castle. Many say that this is the castle Walt Disney modeled Cinderella's castle after.

After a quick night in Munich, we took a train to Vienna, Austria. This train was much different than the first, which great seating, a delicious lunch, and Wi-Fi to help me keep up with the trip. Once in Vienna, we did shopping at a really neat mall and spent the rest of the night relaxing in our hotel. The next day, we took a bus tour to the Shonbrunn Palace, which was incredible, before shopping for the remainder of the day and heading to the symphony for the evening.

The next morning, we headed back to the train station to trek back across Austria to Switzerland, where we would spend a day exploring before our river cruise began. Next up -- Wanderlust: Switzerland!
