Beauty Secrets: Hot Oil Treatment

beauty secrets

I've done it before, but on recommendation from one of my coworkers, I decided to try the olive oil hair treatment again. You can buy so many products or go to the salon for a hot oil treatment, but this is an easy process that is perfect for a night of relaxing or cleaning up, and is probably one of the oldest tricks in the books.

Ingredients:
1 1/2 tablespoons of Olive Oil

(Isn't it nice to know that you aren't putting a ton of chemicals on your hair while doing this?)

Though the stove works just as well, I poured my olive oil in a bowl, heated it for about a minute until it was nice and warm (you don't want it hot!) and headed to my bathroom for my DIY treatment. I have thin hair, and since my problem areas are my ends, I only did the bottom half of my hair. I held it as though pulling it into a pony tail, dipped my ends in the oil, and worked the oil up my strands of hair until it was soaked. I secured my oily hair on top of my head with a clip and left it there while I watched Castle, the People's Choice awards, and cleaned up. I then showered and shampooed, and it takes a few washes to get it out.

Real Life Fail:
I have a terrible habit of going to bed with my hair wet, so after I washed my hair, I brushed it and climbed into bed. I shampooed it twice (I use Biolage) and finished up with a John Frieda Conditioner, and thought I was good to go. When I woke up this morning, however, it was a different story. Now, don't get me wrong, my hair never looks good in the morning if I go to bed with it wet (it always requires styling), but this morning was a disaster. Because I hadn't dried my hair, I didn't see that my hair did in fact still have oil in it. So, back in the shower I went to wash it again (4 times just to be safe) and sure enough, with a quick blow dry, my hair was sleek and smooth and not at all oily.

I'm definitely going to start doing this more often -- there's nothing to lose especially if you're just hanging out at home!
